On the signature of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, the
Haut-Koenigsbourg was handed over to the French government and
awarded the status of National palace.
The restoration work carried out on this monument during the
20th century became a source of dispute during a period
of fluctuating Franco-German relations.
The edifice has now been completely restored, and was
classified as a historical monument in 1993.
The structure of the castle gives an accurate idea of how a
mountain fortress looked like in the Middle Ages. Its interior
walls are decorated in a rich medieval style, and it houses an
exceptional collection of weapons and furniture, mainly from the
16th and 17th centuries…
The Haut-Koenigsbourg has definitely made its
reputation.
